Russell Clinton Carter and Maxine Louise Kulp grew up in the same area of southern Michigan and attended college together at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.  They married after graduating on July 17, 1954, and shortly thereafter moved to the Park Rapids area as rural missionaries through Oak Hills College in Bemidji.  Russ continued on his family business, growing tomatoes and other produce, the following summer.

Originally selling produce first from roadside wagons and the farm, Carter's Red Wagon Farm grew in size, family members, and produce selection over the past fifty plus years into what it is today.

Now in their golden years with seven children and nineteen grandchildren, Daddy and Mama Carter still continue to be very involved with the farm and the farm market, continuing the tradition started so many years ago!
